HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILLY DEE WILLIAMS
According to imdb, he originally auditioned for the role of Han Solo. I don't know if the franchise could have withstood cool of that magnitude.
Not that Billy Dee needs any help. For the rest of you mere mortal men, there's Lando. Welcome to the cool side of the pillow.

These are not the books you're looking for
Libreaction's Andy Priestner has managed to ping two of my nerd sweet spots with his thoughtful review of the Jedi Archives. He takes issue in particular with their access policy, which could be the greatest comprehensive exam question ever written.
"Create an access policy for an archive containing all of the known information in the galaxy, held in a variety of print and digital formats, and serving a diverse user population. Special attention should be paid to the competing needs to provide critical information while guarding against data corruption at the hands of the Dark Side. Cite the professional literature and provide specific examples."
And while I won't go so far as to call head librarian Jocasta Nu the worst librarian in the galaxy, I will say that if your client is having trouble finding something, the answer is not, "If an item doesn't appear in our records, it doesn't exist".

Totally geektastic gift ideas for the Star Wars fans in your life - 2010
Your pants are no good to you around your ankles.
Boba Fett belt buckle
IT'S A SAMPLER!
Star Wars cross stitch from steotch
This is the swimsuit you've been looking for.

And finally, I may actually ask for this for Christmas, because seriously? Seriously. Words fail.
You provide a photograph with the face and the pose, Paul makes the magic happen. Orders are NOT guaranteed for Christmas delivery, but the anticipation becomes part of the gift. Just like when you were 10, waiting for Jedi to be released so you could find out what happened to Han.

Comic-Con 2010 - Random snaps
At some point, everything starts to look sci-fi. Do you think architects in San Diego intentionally design things to be geek bait?
Luke has three daddies.
Behold! Bobblehead Claire with furbaby. Clearly, this is awesome.
And I will love him and squeeze him and call him Mal.

Comic-Con 2010 - Friday report
It's a trip I've wanted to make for years, and now I'm here. Wow. To say that I was overwhelmed yesterday was an understatement. This place is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. And the convention center looks like a frakking battlestar that broke atmo and crashed next to the bay.
I knew it was going to be a good day when I was picked up for the ride to the airport in cab #42. When I had a conversation about Dune with my San Diego shuttle driver, I knew I was home.
Photos and moments, after the jump ...
You can also follow my adventures in real time on the twitters @waxwendy, and at Tubular where I'm reporting on the tv panels. Check out my recap of the Spartacus panel and more!

It's a Stampede! Link Roundup 4/18
This month I'm spending my student loan payment on Wendy Brandes' effulgent Spike inspired Vampire Diana ring.
Real vampires don't sparkle.
When I marry my next ex-husband, this is what I'm wearing.
Created by Chicago designer Christina Liedtke, more than 1,800 flowers were individually cut and sewn from 600 wrappers of the world's most perfect food - peanut M&Ms.
Tip o'the hat to @nahtzen.
Seriously, fandom? Seriously.
Castiel is the #1 rising name for boys so far this year.
Of course it's the parents who start naming their kids Ruby and Azazel that you have to watch out for.
In the name of all that is good and holy, do NOT click on this link unless you have several hours to kill. You've been warned.
Apocalypstick Now pegged it ... yes, this is my pattern.
BeatUpCreations via Daddy Likey
One week from RIGHT NOW, Zoomom and I will be in New Orleans at Jazz Fest. Based on previous experience, the Fair Grounds will likely be one big mud bowl by then as well.
This year, I'm planning ahead, and will be shod accordingly.
Even dark lords of the Sith gotta eat.
Star Wars inspired chop sticks.
So this is apparently a thing. Tip o'the hat to @rd2020

It's a Stampede! Link Roundup - 3/21
I've already expressed my new found love of the violet infused Aviation cocktail. 29-95 thinks I should now try the subtly vegetal flavor of chartreuse in my drinks.
Damn them, I think they're right.
Tasting the businesslike Chartreuse | 29-95.com
This t-shirt. Only 100 were printed, so step lively.
Apparently, people are very passionate about EXIT signage - with good reason I suppose, since your life can depend on it.
Although I've always found this version to be less "exit" and more "scampering this way".
The Big Red Word vs. the Little Green Man via Neatorama
Bea Arthur may have left us, but her wisdom lives on. SNUU SNUU!!
I've never ordered anything advertised in Parade magazine, but that may soon change.
YES. TO. THIS!!
via Jezebel
I stumbled upon FashionFace.tv via their makeup tutorials on YouTube. Most of what I've seen there have been evening, almost theatrical looks, but the main site also offers beginner vids covering all the basics.
Sam and Nic are freelance makeup artists based in Norwich England. They're down to earth and engaging, and have already sent me off on a quest for MAC's discontinued eyeglass product.
As if I needed any more encouragement to buy makeup.
It was later it was after two. We found a bottle of good chartreuse. The lights were green and gold. We played Latin soul. By the time Priscilla put the Al Green on the bottle was gone.

Thursday Nerdgasm - What I'm fannish about right now
Things that are making me squee like the little fangirl I am ...
Need a way to pass the time until the Hellatus ends or the Apocalypse begins? Try your hand at Supernopoly.
Created by Reveria, join Team Heaven, Team Hell, or side with the outnumbered Hunters in the ultimate battle.
I am in awe at the level of detail and creativity, and the amount of work that clearly went into it. I would pay cash money for this game.
Do you think it's because she's awesome? I think it's because she's awesome.
How geeky does it make me that I can identify the characters by outline alone? You know what? Don't answer that question ...
I call dibs on Metallicar!

This has been making the rounds of the intertubes the last 24 hours, but I am obligated by my membership in the Little Starbuck Urban Achievers to repost it. Via numerous sources, but the tip o'the hat goes to my friend Mark J. You can also find a side-by-side comparison vid here.

Later he brooded over his penne al arrabiata, knowing there was no other end to their story, and taking no comfort from it.

Goodnight, Forest Moon
Noah Dziobecki wasn't content with just any old birthday gift for his friends' kid. Instead, he dipped into his bag of awesome, and came up with this. Which just makes me want to do the Ewok dance of joy.
Clickie on the linkie below to download the PDF and get instructions for assembling your own copy. You'll be the hit of the next nerd baby shower.
I suggest reading while snuggled up in your tauntaun sleeping bag.
Or maybe while enjoying a glass of blue milk, lazing on your nice soft rug.
Night night. Sleep tight.
